Is God Calling You to Ministry?
A prescribed study program, as a requirement for ordination, demonstrates that a student is committed to becoming a "workman that is capable of rightly dividing the Word of Truth" (2 Tim. 2:15).
The ordination process allows for the development of character through academic preparation in biblical, theological, and practical studies.
The rigor of completing ordination requirements allows one to demonstrate a commitment to the call and to life-long learning.
Completing the process also demonstrates to the Church that one is capable of leading an exemplary and holy life, has a thirst for knowledge for the Word of God, has the ability to communicate the Gospel, and demonstrates the presence of gifts and graces needed to fulfill God's call.
By submitting to the requirements of ordination in the Church of the Nazarene, a person demonstrates humility and servant leadership and can be recognized by the church as one who is called of God.
Becoming Ordained
Traditional Degree Program
Students in the Ministry Preparation Program (MPP) are encouraged to consider moving to the traditional degree program. The Pastoral Ministries major is recommended for several reasons. First and foremost, this major will benefit students with their ministry in their local church. Second, it is a better return on the investment of time and money. Third, it will provide a strong foundation for doing graduate work. This program is designed to help resource students both in ministry and in their personal walk with the Lord. It is specifically in line with an individual's goal of preparing for the ministry.
The traditional degree can help to transform and empower students to make a significant difference in the local church and in people's lives. Choosing to pursue a traditional degree at NBC will be a life-changing decision.
Ministry Preparation Program
The Ministry Preparation Program (MPP) is an affordable non-degree program that focuses on ordination preparation in the Church of the Nazarene. While the educational quality and expectation are the same for MPP courses as that for traditional degree courses, the student will earn one semester hour of college credit for each MPP course completed successfully. The student receives a full tuition scholarship for the one semester hour and is charged only the technology fee for each course. The one semester hour of credit will be applied toward elective hours should the student change to a traditional degree program.
