NBC Joins Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership

Big News! Nazarene Bible College has just been granted a provisional membership by the Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership. Dr. David Phillips, Vice President for Online Academic Services, stated, "While we have a few more things to do before we are finished, this was the difficult part and it should be smooth sailing from now on (pun intended)." We are excited that NBC will be the first member of NCPDLP which specializes solely in ministry degrees.

NCPDLP is the official Navy education organization that forms distance degree partnerships for Sailors worldwide, whether at naval stations and bases or onboard ships. In the August 2009 blog, we announced our membership as an Academic Partner with Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC). Through SOC, we offer accredited undergraduate degrees to members of all the US Armed Forces. This new opportunity will provide direct access for Sailors to NBC's NCPDLP-sanctioned degree programs.

NCPDLP evaluates colleges' and universities' distance education degree programs for excellence and relevance for naval personnel. Only qualified schools make the cut. Once the NBC degree programs are finalized, we will be a full NCPDLP partner.

The NBC programs for NCPDLP will be structured to allow Sailors simplified application, enrollment, and attendance. Sailors will be able to attend either on campus in Colorado Springs or through NBC's online program, anywhere in the world, even if their station changes after they start. Of course, NBC also offers VA benefits and other education assistance to help military personnel with tuition costs.

Like the Navy, we think our work is "...not just a job, but an adventure," as we work to Glorify Jesus Christ as Lord by preparing adults to evangelize, disciple, and minister to the world. We're glad to have this opportunity to support the US Navy men and women who protect our country. Who knows what we'll learn in return? Maybe someone can finally explain what shape a ship is, when it's not "ship-shape."
