Financial Aid Specialist

Work Schedule


40 hours weekly


Normally Monday – Friday 8 am to 5 pm. (subject to supervisor assignment)

Primary Duties

  • Assist students with all steps in the FAFSA application process including:
    • Requesting a FSA ID
    • Filing a FAFSA application
    • Reviewing and explaining FAFSA results
    • Completing Entrance and Exit Counseling as needed
    • Completing a Master Promissory note as needed
    • Explaining the different aid options and student eligibility for each
  • Awarding/Packaging Federal Financial Aid including steps necessary for awarding aid, such as:
    • Confirming eligibility through review of Student ISIRs.
    • Gathering additional documentation to resolve conflicting information
    • Clearing C flags and related issues (Citizenship, Selective Service, etc.)
    • Performing verification and making corrections
  • Perform a broad range of administrative duties:
    • act as first point of contact for the financial aid office
    • respond to requests for financial aid information
    • schedule student appointments
    • assist students with financial aid applications
    • counsel students regarding financial aid matters
    • mail/email required letters and notifications for student eligibility
  • Invoice tuition payments for VA, State Vocational Rehabilitation or Tuition Assistance benefits.
  • Proactively notify new and returning students of FAFSA deadlines and filing requirements
  • Send annual FAFSA reminders to returning students and FAFSA instructions to new students.
  • Maintain student files for  Financial Aid, Vocational Rehabilitation, Tuition Assistance and VA benefits , tuition assistance, and VA benefits


Miscellaneous Duties

  • Assist registration with student account information and financial aid status
  • Assist admissions with new student financial aid questions/concerns and eligibility
  • Meet and explain the financial aid process to new students
  • Prepare scholarship and financial aid announcements for the NBC Communicator
  • Assist with New Student Orientation/Open House receptions when needed
  • Other duties as assigned


  • A Christian whose faith and  life are in harmony with the doctrine of the Church of the Nazarene and the culture of Nazarene Bible College
  • College Degree and/or equivalent work experience
  • High level of confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear. The employee may occasionally be asked to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to sit at a computer desk and use a computer keyboard and mouse without discomfort
