PSY4213 - Theory and Practice of Group Counseling

Course Description

Theory and Practice of Group Counseling is the second theory course in a core sequence of three. Its purpose is to teach, from a Christian perspective, a comparative overview of the philosophies, goals, and techniques of the major counseling theories as applied to group counseling. Particular emphasis is given to the developmental stages of counseling groups. In addition, the course will review professional ethics and current issues, trends, and research in counseling.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, you should be able to:

  1. Identify the philosophies, goals, and techniques of the major counseling theories as applied to group therapy.
  2. Identify the developmental stages of counseling groups.
  3. Demonstrate familiarity with currnet counseling literature.
