PSY4053 - Professional Issues in Counseling
The purpose of this course is to provide a broad understanding of issues which concern the student earning a Bachelor of Arts in Ministry degree with a major in Christian Counseling. Topics include preparation standards for future education and credentialing; professional organizations and associations; professional ethical and legal standards; and roles, functions, and limitations of a graduate with a bachelor degree in counseling.
At the conclusion of this course, you should be able to:
- Read and discuss with understanding important professional issues in the field of counseling, including the history of the helping professions, ethical and legal standards, social and cultural foundations, requirements for licensure, and professional organizations.
- Develop and write a personal philosophy of counseling.
- Interview a licensed counselor and report your findings in a well-written paper.
- Pass a comprehensive exam over the Christian Counseling curriculum.
