MUS1161 - Music Fundamentals

Course Description

Fundamentals of Music is a study of the basic building blocks of music, including: time and sound; pitch notation, time classification; note and rest values; time signatures; intervals; the basic scales (major and minor); key signatures; triads.

Course Objectives

The following intended learning objectives will be achieved by this course:

  1. The student will exhibit a basic working knowledge of music notation, rhythm, major and minor scales, key-signatures, intervals, and triads.
  2. The student will recall a common vocabulary for the description and execution of basic music scores.

Course Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course. Fundamentals of Music is an elective for non-music majors and a requirement for music ministry majors as a prerequisite for Music Theory I & II.
