Course Description

DESCRIPCIÓN DEL CURSO:

Un curso de introducción a la sociología. Este curso es un estudio de la interacción humana y los contextos en que ocurre el ministerio, incluyendo al individuo en la sociedad, la desigualdad social, instituciones sociales y cambio social. Se consideran los conceptos y teorías sociológicas, y los resultados de las investigaciones pertinentes.

Course Objectives

The following intended learning outcomes will be achieved by this course:

  1. Ability to explain the basic concepts and theories of the discipline of Sociology.
  2. Ability to sensitively explain the nature of cultures.
  3. Ability to describe and interpret the relationship between culture and individual behavior.
  4. Ability to describe the function of religion in sociological categories.

The following competencies as outlined in the Sourcebook on Ordination: United States of America Edition, 2006 to meet the educational requirements for Ordination within the Church of the Nazarene will be achieved by completing this course:

  • Ability to discover sociological dynamics and trends and to apply that information to specific ministry settings.(CX-1)
  • Ability to analyze & describe congregations & communities.(CX-2)
  • Ability to describe socialization and to apply its dynamics to the life of the Christian community.(CX-3)
  • Ability to explain the operational culture.(CX-4)
  • Ability to identify and apply the principles of cross-cultural communications.(CX-7)
  • Ability to apply historical analysis to the life of a local congregation in order to describe its historical and cultural context.(CX-9)
