President's Sixth Report to the Board of Trustees

Dr. Harold B. Graves Jr. President Nazarene Bible College

An entire year has already passed by since the President presented his fifth Annual Report to the Board of Trustees and the entire Nazarene Bible College family. I can still recall it like it was yesterday. We went over the year's shortcomings, triumphs, and goals for the upcoming year. We saw obstacles ahead but knew that we could do everything through God who gives us strength. Each staff member was preparing for our accreditation visit and it was clear that the upcoming year would be one to remember.

President Harold B. Graves Jr. opened this year's report with an inspiring verse, Number 14:6-9, "Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, "The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the LORD. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them." It didn't take long before the crowd was full of smiles and praises to God.

President Graves then went on to speak about the years events. The biggest, most crucial event we experienced this year was our HLC accreditation site visit. Although we will not get the official word until late this fall, the exit report was very encouraging. Next, he explained the positive audit we had. That means we finished positively in the black and decreased our liability sufficiently. He also mentioned the years many transitions, which included losing Dr. David Phillips as Vice President of the Online Office to Trevecca Nazarene University and bringing in Dr. Alan Lyke as the Dean of Online Education to bring new vision and continued dedication to excellence. All the while, we knew that the Lord has been with us.

Lastly, we focused on the strategic plan for NBC. It is broken down into three themes; Minding the mission while telling the NBC story, cultivating dynamic teaching and learning, and seeking growth opportunities through expanded academic offerings and the establishment of appropriate financial benchmarks. What appeared to be obstacles last year ended up being incredible opportunities and the college is passionate and ready to continue making NBC the best place for Christian education. Finally, the President ended with this remark, "...in our weakness we found strength, for the Lord was with us, and we did not need to be afraid." So I must repeat, do not be afraid, for the Lord is with us.
