Commencement Message - Pursuing God's Plan and Purpose

Dr. Norman Moore was the NBC Commencement speaker. He has served as an evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene for 38 years.  His objectives in ministry are to win the lost to Jesus Christ, assist the Christian in sanctified discipleship, lead the Church in genuine revival, and encourage the pastor and spouse in their ministries. It was fitting to have such a person speak to our NBC graduates, many of whom are already in the ministry or going out into ministry.

His Commencement address was titled, “What’s Next? Pursuing God’s Plan and Purpose.” He told graduates that it is important to know where you are presently and where you are going. Philippians 1:3-6 says that, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” Dr. Moore reminded the graduates that it was God who began the good work in each graduate. He found them and brought them to NBC. God is the one who called each to ministry.

It is God who works in each graduate to carry on what He started to completion. The graduates might not have all the answers for the next steps in their journey, but God does. He is working in the graduates' lives and knows what is around the next corner.

Psalm 32:8 tells of how God will instruct the graduate in the way he should go.  “Lost people still need to be saved. Believers still need to be sanctified. The church still needs to be revived. The pastor and spouse still need to be encouraged in their ministry.” There is God’s work to do out there in the world.

The graduates laughed, cried, and were challenged to go out, trust, and serve the Lord.
