NBC Faculty Come Together

The Yearly Faculty Workshop

NBC is blessed with its faculty. They have served at NBC for many years, dedicating their lives to form pastors and ministry leaders. They have written and developed curriculums and have held high the standard of excellence in theological education.

Once a year, the faculty gather together and hold what is called the “Faculty Workshop.” Over the years, it has always been a time of training for their enrichment. This year they met by ZOOM on July 21-22, 2020.

Those present included, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Alan Lyke who led the meeting; Faculty members, Dr. Thomas King (Director Bible and Theology Core Programs), Dr. Terry Lambright (Director Counseling and Counseling for Christian Ministries Programs), Prof. Timothy McKeithen (Director Hispanic Pastoral Ministries Program), Dr. Sandra Palm (Director General Education Core Programs), Dr. Daniel Powers (Director Advantage and Bible Theology Core Programs), Dr. James Russom (Director Pastoral Leadership and Pastoral Ministries Programs), Dr. Jerry Storz (Director Leadership and Ethics, and Christian Education Ministries Program), and Dr. Joseph Warrington (Director Ministry Preparation Program), Registrar, Rev. Duane Mathias, Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Ms. Karen Colston; and Vice President for Enrollment Management, Dr. David Church, Vice President for Finance, Mrs. Shirley Cadle, and Chief Information Officer, Mr. Fred Phillips.

The Workshop started with a time of sharing and remembering “Why We Do What We Do.” Dr. Alan Lyke engaged the group by using Isaiah 61 to consider their motivations and purposes of their daily work with students, professors, class outlines, and course objectives.

A special time during the workshop is when each faculty member gives a personal update. They share events of the past year, their family news, and even how they are coping with quarantine. Personal prayer requests are shared, and there is always a time of prayer for special needs. God’s presence is felt, and He is praised for His faithfulness throughout the year.

The President and Vice Presidents share their journey through the school year. Their perspectives bring to light the challenges and the victories encountered. One can only praise God for the miracles given through times where human efforts could not have made a way – But then again, NBC is God’s school, so God’s answers across the years, have been the norm.

The Program Directors share their current realities, the challenges encountered, and their future plans and projects. Educational quality is measured, changes in courses and text books are discussed, and long-term improvements are put out on the table.

The second day of the “Faculty Workshop” is dedicated to the Strategic Plan and a lot of very detailed work is realized. After examining every aspect of the plan, the day closes with a wonderful sense of comradery, mission accomplished, and a new hope for the year to come to implement what God has in store using this special group of individuals, once again.

The “Faculty Workshop” closed with a benediction read from Hebrews 13:20-21...

“Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
