Passing the Torch in the Crisp Family

Claude and Janet Crisp both graduated from NBC in 1982 and pastored local Nazarene churches in Eastern Kentucky from 1982 thru 1987. The Crisps assumed the pastoral leadership of the Beauty Church of the Nazarene, Beauty, Kentucky. A subsequent church assignment was the Beattyville Church of the Nazarene, Beattyville, Kentucky. In both churches, Claude served as pastor and Janet as assistant pastor. Claude was ordained in 1984 and Janet in 1986. It was in 1986 when the call of God changed the direction of the Crisps as US Army Chaplaincy became the clear direction God was calling. During the following seminary years (87-92), Claude worked at the Nazarene Publishing House, and he and Janet pastored the Rockingham Church of the Brethren, near Lexington, Missouri.

In 1993, Claude entered into active duty as an Army Chaplain. For more than 20 years he has provided preaching, counseling, pastoral care, and spiritual leadership to the members of the Armed Forces in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, and also in the world areas of Afghanistan, Kuwait, Cuba, Korea, and Germany.

During the military years, Janet has volunteered her talents and gifts to various Nazarene churches in locations where the Crisps have been assigned providing preaching and teaching support and other needed services. Her greatest calling was evident in her dedication to raising 4 children in the challenging military environment where the Soldier is often absent from the home while performing military duties.

Claude and Janet’s son, John, graduated in the 2016 NBC class with a major in Pastoral Ministries. Currently, John is advancing his education at Denver Seminary and serves as a local minister. John is the founding member of BridgeHope, an organization that uses technology to connect survivors of human trafficking with resources in their area.
