Disappointments Turned to Victories

In 1786, Thomas Coke, trusted friend of John Wesley, set sail with several missionaries who were planning to begin a work in Nova Scotia. Violent storms turned their one-month voyage into three; however, when they finally reached a safe port, they were not in Nova Scotia but Antigua. As the weary group embarked, the first person they met was John Baxter, the only man that Coke knew on the island. The missionaries stayed, convinced that God had led them there; as a result, thousands came to know Christ.

As disappointing as it is not to be able to celebrate together the achievements that you have all worked so hard to obtain, allow yourselves to feel the disappointment but then realize that you have reached the safe port that you were heading toward all through your educational journey. God has amazing opportunities and plans ahead for you that the unexpected twists of COVID-19 cannot stop, “and I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6 esv). God bless you, 2020 NBC Graduates, and your families who have supported you.
