From India to Colorado Springs to NBC

I was born and raised in a Christian family in Trivandrum, Kerala (located in the Southern part of India), the eldest of three children. My mother, however, passed away when I was only 15 years old, and that was a time in my life where my faith in God was incredibly shaken. After completing High School, I attended a Youth Camp, and God did a great work and restored me back to Him. Since that time, I dedicated my life to serve Him in ministry. So, I headed off to seminary. After finishing my studies, I taught simultaneously at the School of Biblical Studies with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) and pastored an International Church. After completing my Master’s in Sociology, I moved to the capital city of India, New Delhi, and started my career as an itinerant preacher and teacher. In order to support myself, I also taught English and communication skills at various institutes.

I met my wife while serving as the associate pastor of an Afghan refugee church in New Delhi, India. My wife is originally from Minnesota, and she worked for an NGO in Afghanistan for about four years. Our mutual interest in working among the Afghan population led our paths to intersect in India. After a much-focused pursuit on my part, she finally said yes to a relationship after eight long months. We were engaged shortly after in March 2013, having an Indian-style engagement ceremony in Delhi. Due to the process to obtain my visa, I only arrived in the US two days before our wedding, which was my first overseas trip and the first time I ever saw snow in my entire life. We got married in Minnesota on October 26, 2013 and moved to Colorado Springs in January 2014. We are blessed with three amazing children.

Some of my interests and favorite activities include reading (especially non-fiction and thought-provoking Christian-living books), music (I’m really into playing the drums and listening to all kinds of music), cooking (especially spicy Indian food!), watching action movies and playing outdoor games.

I currently work as a Case Manager/Counselor at Springs Rescue Mission. I have a private counseling practice called Wings of Hope Counseling in Colorado Springs. I am a registered psychotherapist and a Certified Addictions Counselor. My association with Nazarene Bible College began in the summer of 2014. As someone who has been invested in training and teaching in churches and various institutions, I’m so blessed to be a part of the Nazarene Bible College family to see people trained up to fulfill their God-given destiny in this world.

Rev. Roy Joshua, adjunct professor, has been teaching for NBC since 2014.
