Be Still and Know Jesus

Rev. JC Nells is an NBC alumnus and is presently pastoring a “Re-Start/New-Start” church in Winslow, Arizona. This church is right outside of the Navajo Nation and is part of the South West Native American District of the Church of the Nazarene. This summary is from Rev. Nell’s devotional given at an NBC Chapel on October 7, 2020.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God.” Do we know Jesus? Do we truly know Him?

Does anyone know the iconic basketball player Michael Jordan? Do we know Michael Jordan’s birthday or favorite color?

To truly know someone, you need to spend time with them. We only know Michael Jordan from a distance. To know Jesus, we need to spend time with Him which involves sacrifice and discipline.

Jesus took time away to be with God. This Pandemic has helped us all slow down - to grow and know God.

Ministry is a result of knowing God. We don’t “do” ministry for God. Ministry flows from a relationship with God.

Chapters 14, 15, 16, and 17 of John speak of this relationship. When the Holy Spirit comes, you will experience relationship. Christ dwelling in you. Jesus said, “I am the vine you are the branches.” “Abide in me,” then fruit takes place.

Use the Pandemic time to get to know Jesus. The more you get to know Him, the more we act like Him, talk like Him, and even start to look like Him. Be still and know Him.

Rev. JC Nells is an NBC alumnus and Pastor at Restoration Church Winslow Church of the Nazarene in Winslow, AZ.
