President's Update

September 2011

Dear Alumni:

I bring you greetings from Colorado Springs and Nazarene Bible College in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. This month I want to highlight four recent events at Nazarene Bible College.

34th Annual Williamson Golf Tournament

The Annual Williamson Golf Tournament was a great success! 87 golfers enjoyed the beautiful Eisenhower Golf Course at the Air Force Academy. This year we had 55 hole sponsors and raised $13,000 dollars for scholarships. This is the third highest amount raised in the 34 years of the golf tournament. The Williamson Golf Tournament has raised nearly $100,000 for scholarships in the past ten years.

A special thanks to Dr. Gary Haines, tournament director, and his outstanding staff of workers for a successful tournament. We are most grateful for the 55 sponsors and those that played in the tournament this year.

Dr. Haines congratulates General Superintendent, Dr. David Graves, for having the straightest shot. Dr. Graves represented the Board of General Superintendents at the tournament this year. The General Superintendents annually sponsor a hole. We are most grateful for their support of the golf tournament.

Thanks were in order to Shari Henson, Gary's administrative assistant for the tournament. Shari works in the Student Development Department with Dr. Matson, Vice President for Student Development and Registrar.

It was a blessing to have my brother, General Superintendent David Graves, join me at the golf tournament this year. It is always a joy to spend time together.

Also joining us this year were Rev. David Ralph, District Superintendent of the Colorado District and NBC Board of Trustees' Member; Dr. Brian Wilson, District Superintendent of the Chicago Central District and former Board of Trustees' Chairman; and Dr. Ed Nash, District Superintendent of the Kansas District (not pictured).

Alumni Picnic

Thursday, July 21, the college hosted an alumni picnic in Strickland Chapel. Administrators, faculty, staff, and current NBC students were able to interact with former students, including alumni from the very first NBC class.

Associated Student Government members Joe Miller, Greg Niver, and John McGee grill the burger for everyone!

Back to School

The fall trimester is off to a good start. We have 509 enrolled in a degree program and 373 enrolled in the Ministry Preparation Program for a total enrollment of 872. I am reminded again and again of the influence our donors and alumni have on our enrollment. So often our leads come from people you have recommended to us. Keep your eyes and ears open to those around you who are weighing a call to ministry. Send us their information and we will help them process that call.

Annual Offering

Sunday, October 2, 2011 is the day the Church of the Nazarene has designated for the Nazarene Bible College Annual Offering. Last year, 1,492 churches in the U.S. contributed to the Annual Offering. This is a decrease of 1,426 in the past ten years. The offering has decreased $75,967 from the high nine years ago. This year we are asking every church to receive an open Bible offering for NBC at the close of their service on October 2. The idea is to have ushers at the rear of the church with an open Bible so that people will have the opportunity to give. Please encourage your pastor to receive an open Bible Offering for NBC on October 2.

Grace and Peace,
Harold
