A course examining and integrating the social and spiritual aspects of ministry, with specific emphasis on the contribution of Christianity in general and the Salvation Army in particular to the formation of social work principles, practices, and programs.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Identify and explain the contributions of Christianity and The Salvation Army to the formation of social service principles, practices, and programs.
2. Develop a personal philosophy of ministry/worldview statement that reflects a commitment to social service.
3. Develop a ministry plan and program for engaging congregational members in community service.
4. Identify and describe the essential characteristics of effective Christian social service ministries.
5. Explain how engagement in social ministry helps evangelicals live out and grow in their faith.
6. Describe the foundations, guidelines, and methods for faith-based organizations to effectively partner with government in social service programs.
7. Explain appropriate principles and procedures for conducting evangelism through social service programs.
8. Identify denominational and other social service resources that are available, and explain how these can be accessed and utilized in the provision of social service programs.
9. Identify and explain the breadth of social services possible through congregational ministry.
