Course Description
Music Theory I is a basic study of the harmonic construction of music including major and minor scales, intervals, triads, tonality, chord progressions, harmonization of melodies, inversion of triads, non-chord tones, and the dominant seventh chord.
Course Objectives
The following intended learning objectives will be achieved by this course:
- At the end of the course, the student should have demonstrated an ability to compose a short musical works that demonstrate the use of diatonic harmony and non-harmonic tones.
- At the end of the course, the student should have demonstrated an ability to analyze musical works in a manner that indicates harmonic usage and non-harmonic tones.
- At the end of the course, the student should have demonstrated an ability to identify and write all forms of diatonic triads, seventh chords, and non-harmonic tones.
