CEM2113 - Foundations for Christian Educational Ministries
A survey of the theological and theoretical foundations of Christian educational ministries aimed at assisting the student to formulate a personal philosophy of Christian Education. Prerequisite: Introduction to Christian Educational Ministries.
The following learning objectives will be achieved by this course:
- To aid the student in gaining a basic understanding of primary principles that form the foundation of effective Christian education in a local church.
- To assist the student to interpret these primary principles into a personal philosophy of Christian education.
- To help the student develop the skills necessary for applying these primary principles in the development and ongoing operation of a local church Christian educational ministry.
The following competencies as outlined in the Sourcebook on Ordination: United States of America Edition, 2006 to meet the educational requirements for Ordination within the Church of the Nazarene will be achieved by completing this course:
- Ability to write an integrative philosophy of ministry that will answer, "why I do what I do when I do it." (CP-4)
- Ability to describe the stages of human development and to apply that knowledge in leading people to Christian maturity. (CP-19)
- Ability to envision Christian education most appropriate for a local church and to assure the development and empowerment of those serving in it. (CP-20)
- Ability to discover sociological dynamics and trends and to apply that information to specific ministry settings. (CX-1)
- Ability to apply historical analysis to the life of a local congregation in order to describe its historical and cultural context. (CX-9)
- Ability to prepare, organize and deliver a biblically sound basic scheme of teaching/learning discipleship for youth in culturally appropriate ways, using appropriate techniques and skills. (CP-22 Deacon Youth)
- Ability to develop and utilize existing ministry forms in youth ministry such as small group facilitation, Bible teaching, family nurture and formation, team development, camps and retreats, etc.) by which individuals, families, and congregations may be formed into Christlikeness. - Ability to assess and implement emerging approaches to youth ministry in light of enduring theological (Bible, doctrine, philosophy) and contextual history, psychology, sociological) perspectives.(CP-24 Deacon Youth)
